Today the buyer picked up the horses.

It feels really good, they are just the right kind of people. The have two daughters so they will keep the horses for at least 5-8 years. We will stay in touch through facebook so we will know what is happening with them.

My girlfriend was really strong but when the transport drove of she started crying. But she said that it was the right decision. Maybe things will change in the future but we will consider that when we are there.

This blog was short lived, not really my intension but I want to than the readers for their support.

The horse Widower is signing of.
    For now :)

The ad has been out just a week and the horses are already sold…

The wound just have to heal before everything is finished. If everything is alright they will pick up the horses in a months time.
This was very quick. I feel pleased that this phase in our life soon will be over, but I will miss the horses. My girlfriend seems relieved that it all will be over soon but it will be hard for her. She has had a horse since she was 13 years old, what will happen when there are no horses in her life?

She is strong and seems determined to do this. The choice is hers and I will support her either way.

I dont get a thing? My girlfriend just said that she will sell the horses…

Ive been a horse widower for many years now and when I start a blog to complain a bit she decides to sell the horses? She says that she is starting to loose the interest in the horses and that they cost to much money just to ride on maybe 2 times a month. Her daughter doesnt ride that much any more and doesnt want to spend that many hours in the stable. Friends and boys is more interesting right now.

It feels a bit weird. A family without horses, more money to spend on other things and much more time for me and my girlfriend.

  • The horse injury, part II

Its been a couple of days since one of the horses got injured.

The worst is over. The wound was very deep but it didn’t hurt the knee cap. The horse will be fine in just a couple of days. We just have to keep the wound clear and put on some stuff to keep the flies away.

Even if I’m not that fond of the horses and think they cost way to much money, I’m still relieved. It would have been hard on my girlfriend and her daughter if she would loose her in that way. I ususally complain a lot about how much money the horses cost but this is a vet bill I gladly will pay.

We have two horses, but one is my girlfriends daughters horse.

She is 18 years old, old enough to take some responsibility. Hell no…
My girlfriend more or less takes care of both horses her self, her daughter just rides maybe once a week. Now for some time she has been working nights, one would think that her daughter takes care of both horses during this time. Oh no, she lives with her boyfriend more that at home so who will take care of the horses, yep, me.

    And I don’t even ride…

Once and a while it can be quite nice to take care of the horses, feed them and even get rid of the droppings. Its relaxing to do that but only if you do it occasionally.
When you have to do it every night for a month its a job and i already have a job.

  • Golf or horses

I used to play golf but I stopped because it was a bit too expensive. Just for fun, lets compare golf with horses.

    Golf.

Membership in a smaller club near me, $350 per year.
Golfclubs, $150 for a used set of clubs.
    Balls, gloves, shoes, $100
10 trips to other clubs, (green fee) $500

Total, $1100 year one, after that $950 a year.

    Horse

    A cheap horse, $1500
Cost per month, food, vets, shoes, $400

Total, $6300 year one, after that $4800 per year.

Playing golf is considered to be a rich mans game but having a horse costs at least 5 times more.

Ok maybe this isn’t the whole truth. Many player pay much more for clubs and clothes and stuff. But a “normal” horse can cost $10 000 as well. The point is, I’m fed up with horse mom’s calling me a snob for playing golf.

No matter how much I complain about the horses here, I still like them. The kids have lots of fun with them and for my girlfriend they are a part of the family.

That’s why its this post is a bit sadder. One of the horses has an injury on the back leg. We don’t really know what happened if she got stuck on a thorn or maybe got kicked. She has a wound right on the back knee. According to the vet it might have straight into the cap, if so we will have no other choice that to put her down :( .

This isn’t easy fro my girlfriend, she have had that horse for 8 years now.
I really hope its not that bad.

  • The monthy horse routines

Ok. We have gone through the daily routines. Now lets have a look at the monthy routines when you have a horse.

First of the horses needs new shoes between 4-6 weeks apart.  That is unless they loose a shoe which seems to happen very often. I don’t understand how because those things are nailed to their hoofs. To shoe a horse costs $150 per horse. My girlfriend has two horses so that makes $300.

Then its the massage. Yes, you read right, horses needs massage… My girlfriend calls in the masseuse maybe once a month. It usually costs $100 per horse . I couldn’t afford to pay $200 per month to get my self massage.

This means that except the fee for the stable, food, bedding (the stuff they stand on on the box), she pays $500 every 4-6 weeks.

For you out the who doesn’t have a horse, it might be interesting to know what kind of work you have to to with horses.

It starts around 6 in the morning, every day of the week, they need to be fed. That means, no sleeping in on sundays, EVER. They also need to be fed at lunchtime and in the evening.
That’s 3 times a day, they need to be fed. (How do wild horses survive?)

They also need to be taken cared of, their hoof need to be picked out, their bodied brushed, water carried to them etc. Then its the dropping. I don’t say bullshit anymore, I say horse shit because they produce a whole lot of crap…

If you add this up, the daily routines take around 2 hours every day, plus transport to and from the stable but for us that’s ok, the stable is within walking distance.
But its still 2 hours every day…

What the heck is a Horse Widower.

If you look it up in the dictionary you will find, nothing…
I find that kind of strange, I cant be the only Horse Widower in the world?
Ok, if I try to explain what a Horse Widower is it would be something like this.

A Horse Widower is a man that has very little time with his wife/girlfriend because she spends extreme amounts of time with her horses.
Sometime, that can be a good thing. Most of that time I can do other things like, watch football or spend time with my friends. But sometimes, those horses can be a bit annoying.

    Stay tuned for my stories.
